A Monitoring Solution for an Integrated Pipe Gallery
The integrated pipe gallery is an intensive tunnel made beneath urban roads. It integrates municipal, electricity, water supply, telecommunication, drainage, gas, and other pipelines. The inspection operators should monitor and control the operation of the integrated pipe gallery in real-time. To ensure the proper working of the pipe gallery system, it is vital to monitor alterations inside the pipe gallery, including groundwater level monitoring, cable temperature detection, and manhole cover monitoring.
Given that this monitoring is done underground, it has some challenges:
A) Measuring instruments must be waterproof. Because they sink underwater.
B) Monitoring equipment must be equipped with a power supply.
C) The Gallery pipe's sewage is toxic. Consequently, underground gas exhaust must be done before the operation to ensure the safety of the environment.
D) Weak wireless transmission signal underground
The solution designed to monitor the integrated pipe gallery has four layers:
1. Sensor layer:
It has pressure, gas, variable motion, and liquid level sensors. As a result, in this layer, level and water pressure, toxic gas concentration, state of manhole cover, and image of downhole are measured.
2. Transmission layer:
Thanks to its remote monitoring terminal, it transfers data to the data center.
3. Platform layer
Thanks to the presence of the IoT big data platform in the platform layer, data is managed, classified, and analyzed.
4. Application layer
The solution described above is cost-effective, meanwhile, it helps us in managing and maintaining an integrated pipe gallery. It also makes decision-making in critical situations easier.
