Figuring out the Status of Bridge Sections during Construction of Roadways via Rugged Inductive Sensors
Modern road bridges often use beam construction, and mobile cranes lift prefabricated bridge parts onto pairs of support columns. Several heavy-duty hydraulic cylinders support the ends of sections, allowing for precise height adjustment before final positioning. Manually checking the position of cylinders is time-consuming and may be affected by human faults.
Previously tested sensors were not appropriate since:
They required frequent replacement or adjustment.
They had a short detection distance.
Rugged sensor systems are needed to detect the position of cylinders precisely.
The needed sensor system must be:
• Mechanically vigorous
• Resistant to hard outdoors conditions
The best solution would be:
Rugged Extra-Distance inductive sensors
The features of these sensors:
• Highly reliable
• rated
• vigorous
• precise enough
• fully non-contact operation due to the 22mm • sensing distance
• water-, mud- and dirt-resistant
Note: An M30-diameter body with PBTP sensing face and vacuum-encapsulated electronics make rugged extra-distance inductive sensors appropriate to the harsh environment.
Connection to the jack’s hydraulic control system:
The sensor is configured with an industry-standard PNP normally-open interface and is connected to the jack’s hydraulic control system through an integral M12 connector and PVC-sheathed cable. This makes replacement and removal during routine maintenance simple.
