Description

Product Overview

The DAT3580 is a versatile and robust isolated interface converter designed to bridge asynchronous serial communication lines RS232 and RS485 or RS422. This device ensures complete isolation between the power supply and the RS-232 and RS-485/422 serial lines, effectively eliminating potential ground-loop issues. This makes the DAT3580 ideal for use in demanding environmental conditions. The converter supports both RS-422 full-duplex (4-wire) and RS485 half-duplex (2-wire) operations, with a transmission speed of up to 115.2 Kbps. Notably, the transmission is asynchronous, which means there’s no need for protocol, data format, or baud rate configuration. Additionally, RS-232 connections do not require handshake commands (like RTS, CTS) to manage the baud rate.

Certifications and Compliance

The DAT3580 is certified for use in industrial environments and complies with multiple standards:

  • EMC Immunity: EN 61000-6-2 and BS EN 61000-6-2 standards ensure robust performance against electromagnetic interference.
  • EMC Emission: Compliant with EN 61000-6-4 and BS EN 61000-6-4 standards.
  • UL and CSA Standards: The device meets UL 61010-1 standards for the US market and CSA C22.2 No 61010-1 standards for Canada.
  • UKCA Compliance: Meets the requirements of UK regulations for electrical safety and performance.

Installation Guidelines

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of the DAT3580, follow these installation instructions:

  • Mounting Position: The device is designed for vertical installation on DIN rails.
  • Spacing and Ventilation: If the panel temperature exceeds 45°C or if a high power supply value is used (>27Vdc), maintain a minimum spacing of 5 mm between devices to allow for proper airflow. Avoid placing the device near heat-generating equipment.
  • Vibration and Shielding: Install the DAT3580 in a vibration-free area and use shielded cables for signal connections to avoid interference from power signal cables.

Visual Indicators (LEDs)

The DAT3580 is equipped with LED indicators to provide real-time status updates:

  • PWR (Green):
    • ON: Indicates the device is powered.

    • OFF: Indicates the device is not powered.

    • FAST BLINK: Indicates data is being transmitted from the RS232 port (blink rate varies with baud-rate).

  • TX (Red):
    • OFF: No communication in progress.

    • FAST BLINK: Indicates data is being received on the RS485/422 port (blink rate varies with baud-rate).

How to Order

When ordering the DAT3580, specify the required interface type (RS485 or RS422) and, if necessary, the optional 24Vac power supply.
