Miniature Photoelectric Sensors for Figuring Out the Status of Cartons during Packaging

In bulk production, sealed candy bags are wrapped in cartons, stacked to be shrink-wrapped, and palletized. The Preformed cartons are then carried to the packing station. At stations, layers of candy bags are located in cartons. Then the cartons go to a sealing station. A non-contact sensor is required to sense the cartons' position as they arrive at the packing station. Such a sensor should be able to stop the conveyor and start the packing process.

What is the best solution?

Miniature retro-reflex photoelectric sensors are designed for this application.

Features of these sensors:

• Reliable detection of slow or fast objects
• An operating range of up to 4500mm
• A miniature plastic housing
• Available with standard PNP or NPN 3- or 4-wire outputs
• Able to be positioned in approximately any situation

Where are these sensors mounted?

Near the carton conveyor

How the sensor works:

While the cartons pass, the sensor diagnoses them and stops the conveyors in the proper status to pack. They are connected to the customer's control system through a PVC-sheathed cable with an integral M12 connector or a hermetically sealed input. Another output sounds a stability alarm if the sensitivity decreases.

Note: these sensors' switching frequency is remotely selectable through IOLink, available as standard at no additional cost to the PNP versions.
